Mission Statement
In faith, sharing God's love. In kindness, serving all.
Worship at First Lutheran
Our worship life here at First Lutheran draws on many of the traditions of the Lutheran church, including hymns, liturgy, and choir and bell music. Worship is centered in the Word of God as we gather around water and table. All are welcome here. First has a long tradition of radio ministry, broadcasting a recording of each Sunday's service at 11:00 a.m. on KOJM (610 AM and 98.3 FM). During the Covid Pandemic, we started live-streaming our services on Facebook, and this way of sharing our services continues. Miss worship on Sunday while out of town? Want to share what is happening at First with someone new? See our Facebook page to listen on the go and share with friends and family.
What to Expect at Worship at First Lutheran
Whether you've been a member your whole life or are just passing through Havre, here's what to expect when we gather at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday morning for worship:
CHILDREN IN WORSHIP
We love to have all ages gather together! It's ok if children get a little noisy in the sanctuary: their enthusiasm and participation is cherished, and we believe children need to be a part of worship. However, if you prefer, there's a nursery downstairs in the Fellowship Hall that you are welcome to visit with a TV that will bring the service to you. Each week there's a Children's Time with Pastor Megan by the pulpit before the sermon, and all ages are welcome to come up and join.
WHAT TO WEAR
Our congregation spans all walks of life. You'll see people dressed in all styles, from jeans to sundresses to a suit and tie. Wear whatever helps you worship.
COMMUNION
Services last about an hour. We have communion every Sunday, and the Lord's Table is open to all. White grape juice and gluten-free wafers are available. You are invited to come forward for a blessing even if you don’t commune. An usher will guide you to the Table.
THE BULLETIN
To follow along with the service, you'll need a bulletin and the red hymnal, called the ELW (Evangelical Lutheran Worship). The bulletin will guide you to what part of the hymnal we're using. The front half of the ELW has the liturgy, or the parts of the service that don't change week to week. The back half of the ELW has the hymns. If you get lost, don't panic! Feel free to copy what your neighbors are doing.
THE ELEVATOR
Since our building has lots of stairs, we have an elevator accessible in the main parking lot. The elevator goes to the sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall, where one set of restrooms are located. The elevator is open for every service. There is also a restroom on the sanctuary level located in the narthex.
FELLOWSHIP HOUR
After service, everyone is welcome to join us downstairs in the Fellowship Hall for coffee, treats, and time together.
